LARA GASPAROTTO - Come dawn to us

Thursday 14.12.17 - Sunday 14.01.18
Galerie

Catching the eye right from the end of her photography course at Saint-Luc in Liège, young Lara Gasparotto (1989) has created a vivid and contrasting artistic world. Breathtaking landscapes, sensual and dramatic settings, or rough fragments taken from everyday life make up her compositions. We are at once drawn into the heart of the artist’s intimate circle, at once tender and acidic, and plunged into her contemplative reveries.

Fragmented and abrupt in appearance, the overall impression enfolds and bewitches. Her photographic style, in colour or in black and white, is rhythmic, as if set to a beat, but it is also particularly tactile and may be rough or silky by turn.
The strength of her work lies in a spontaneity that nothing can seemingly exhaust, not even the growing maturity of her practice down the years.

With Come dawn to us, Lara Gasparotto invites us to descend into the dawn, where the first glimmers of light hesitantly chase away the shadows, stealing lascivious instants and revealing the raw traces of the night. Using small formats, the artist urges us to enter on tiptoe into a world of murmurings and confidences.

Lara Gasparotto (1989, Liège) graduated from the Saint-Luc Ecole Supérieure des Arts in Liège and has exhibited her work in several solo exhibitions, including Ask the Dusk (Fotomuseum Den Haag, The Netherlands, 2017); Recreation tunnel (AtelierHaus Aachen, Germany, 2016); Galerie du soir (Photography Museum, Charleroi, 2014); and Next of skin (BIP, Liège, 2012).

Her work has also been published in a number of monographs, including Sleepwalk (Editions Yellow Now – Angles Vifs collection); Rivages (Lannoo) and Ask the Dusk (Ludion).

Lara Gasparotto is represented by the Galerie Stieglietz19, Antwerp.

Inspired by the works of Lara Gasparotto, the Belgian producer ssaliva has made a sound installation for the exhibition.
